Movies' Day. Part IV

Although I write about separate movies from time to time, it's been pretty long since my last "Movies' Day" post, so I feel quite ready to create something new for you.
philadelphia movieAlright, alright, alright! Last weekend my roommate and dear friend Cherry Lady checked the movies we had been recommended by our professors.

The first one is "Philadelphia", a 1993 American drama film and one of the first mainstream Hollywood films to acknowledge HIV/AIDS, homosexuality, and homophobia. (Thanks, Wikipedia) Actually, the film wasn't in our mood, but we watched it pretty attentively because the acting is simply brilliant! I can easily understand why Mr. Tom Hanks received the Oscar for the leading role of Andrew Beckett. And the soundtrack! Certainly I'd heard "Streets of Philadelphia" by Bruce Springsteen before, but I never knew it was for the movie. That was pleasant news.
The plot is rather controversial but pretty understandable. I loved that even though Denzel Washington's character Joe Miller had homophobia and  mysophobia, he agreed on helping Andrew Beckett in the name of justice and law. The movie's worth watching even if you're not a fan of the jurisprudence.

guys and dolls 1955
On Sunday, we turned on "Guys and Dolls". It's a 1955 movie based on the Broadway musical of the same name. It starred  Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine. The plot is about how 50s' New York criminals liked gambling and betting. And that love wins at the end of it all. The movie is full of nice songs and fancy dances - of course, it's based on the musical! I liked the characters. Men were so handsome and women were so stylish those days. It reminded me of how much I like 50s' movies.

The only thing I didn't like in "Guys and Dolls" was Sister Sarah Brown's wedding dress. Or better say, the lack of her wedding dress! I know that she was a missionary, but I beg you! It's a 50s' musical! You could have made it!

But in general, "Guys and Dolls" is totally worth watching.

spectre 007
The third film I wanna talk about is the latest James Bond film "Spectre". The acting crew is wonderful! Daniel Craig, of course, but I was even more thrilled about one and only Monica Bellucci, adorable Ben Whishaw, Ralph Fiennes and - OMG YAS - Andrew Scott! Mr. Scott played Max Denbigh, a member of the British government, and comparing this character to Scott's famous Moriarty, I guess Andrew Scott do fine with this type of role. Unfortunately, Andrew's character won't be lucky to appear in next movies. But maybe as a flashback? Please?
Frankly speaking, I didn't like Léa Seydoux as a Bond girl much. Well, she's nice, but not splendid, you know.

The story features James Bond's first encounter with the global criminal organisation Spectre, marking the group's first appearance in an Eon Productions film since 1971's Diamonds Are Forever, and tying Craig's series of films together with an overarching storyline. (Thanks, Wikipedia)

Of course, I can't help writing about the main "Spectre" theme "Writing's On The Wall" performed by Sam Smith. Remember how excited I was with "Skyfall" by Adele? No wonder why it received an Oscar. So "Writing's On The Wall" is spectacular as well. I watched the live performance, and Mr. Smith nailed it! Let's see what awards this track will get.

Also, Cherry Lady and I have watched (my friend has re-watched) an amazing British series calls "Black Books". There are 3 seasons in the sitcom as well as 3 main characters: the bookshop's owner Bernard Black played by hilarious Dylan Moran, his assistant Manny Bianco and their friend Fran Katzenjammer. Actually, it's all about the wine, dealing with life and relationships, more booze, books vs. modern technologies, "Don't you dare use the word "party" as a verb in this shop!" and wine again. The comedy is just great! Not that stupid American pointless sitcoms, but classy smart British-Irish humor as it is.

That's all for today! Enjoy the silence the movies and have fun!

An End To Start

Well, hello there, y'all! I haven't written for 'a while', might even have already forgotten how to type. You know, I've had so many things I would fill a book in with all that sht, but at the same time 'all that sht' made me feel exhausted like I'd been working in the deepest mines of hell and Satan never paid me. But I won't overwhelm you with the details and will try to trigger only the most interesting things in my mind about how I finished on of the most important parts of my life and am ready to start a new one. So, here I go.

Start Of Something Incredible

And here it starts - 2014! Send a wish upon a star, and it'll come true certainly!
My family. New Year edition
Of course, I was listening to the chiming clock announcing the New Year with my family. We had fun taking photos. The most hilarious part was when my dad tried to take a photo of us with my elder sister's tablet.
After the midnight of the new year some of my friends and I gathered together and went for a walk as we had done a year before, but there were only 6 people! So we went to the main New Year's trees of our city and came back to the place of the meeting.

Our little company with me taking the photo
The boys suck, but Dasha and I look so pretty,
don't we?
We walked till 3 a.m., and then the boys went somewhere-I-didn't-give-a-shit ('cause it was without us), and we, girls, went to Dasha's yard to go on having fun. I stayed at Dasha's place for the whole night (and morning, all in all - till 4 p.m.), and my friend and I drank enough not to remember all the jokes we made. Moreover, we tried watching "Magic Mike", but it fell though. LOL
On my way home I took a video about snow, because Denis from LA had asked me to - they have only rains there, whereas here we have a freaking lot of snow. BTW, here's the link, if you know Russian.
And if you guess my 1st of January finished with making that video, you lose. Only having come home, I was called by my class teacher asking:
- Where are you?
- I'm home.
- What are you doing there?
- Me? At home? Well... I've just come from Dasha...
- Really? So, ring round everyone, and I'll wait you all at "Cherry Bar" on 5 p.m., everything's ordered.
- But how? In one hour? Why didn't you call even later??
- Oh yeah, I could ring you up in 30 minutes before the meeting.
So I called my friends, went ran to Dasha again, and together we took a taxi to the bar. I was called again and again by my friends wondering WTF was happening, but even I hardly had an idea. When Dasha and I finally got to the bar, we had to wait for a pretty long time until firstly the friends, I called to, came, and even later my class teacher, some our friends and some parents of them got to the place too. There we mostly sang various songs, ate a little bit, those, who wanted, drank. Generally, it was a nice party, so homey and cozy.
And only after that I finally got home, made my snow video and sort out my New Year's gifts. Dasha granted me a cool mag looking like a Canon lens and "ARTPOP" album by Lady Gaga. Woo-hooo!

My girls presented my some festive souvenirs - always a safe bet. Also I got a present from Ilya, which is pretty strange for a girl. It is a PC game "Empire: Total War". I immediately installed it in the evening on coming home. Having been brought up with "Civilization V", I only get used to "Total War" world, even though I've already tried "Napoleon: Total War" out.

Installing "Empire..." made me come back to Steam. Of course, I used it when I played "Civilization" during summer 2012, but then I put it off and forgot my password. I tried hard to recalled it or restore my account anyhow, but after all my efforts I gave up and said goodbye to my "Civilization" and all money I'd paid for that. But only today, if I've got a new account, I've bought "Civilization V" again (online now, with a cool reduction - thanks to this festive season), with all additions I'd had that time. And right now it's downloading YYYAAAAASSS!!! *O* [Yup, I love strategies]
And noooow I'm ready to watch new season of SHERLOCK! YAS AGAIN! The premier here is a bit later that in London or in Europe part of Russia, but here I go - watching one of the coolest series of our time.

I'm Your Biggest Fan

But I won't stop until that boy is mine
Lady Gaga, "Paparazzi"

Hey, guys! Happy Halloween! While a half of the planet is celebrating the day of the dead wearing cool suits, I do nothing extraordinary. Therefore I'll make here kinda fan-space. Nothing special, but my favourite fan-arts. And a good old song I lately became obsessed with.

Be brave!

P.S. Yeah, it may look like Lanapocalypse.
P.P.S. "THE CARRIE DIARIES" SEASON 2 HAS STARTED! I'm so excited! Have just watched the 1st episode, and it's so coooool!

Eurovision Week Is On

Today for the time of Europe and tomorrow for us the song contest Eurovision will begin. I've been a big fan of the event since 2009, and now I've already got my oppinion about the situation. What about the present competitors, I told about them a little bit here. So, tomorrow morning I, as an early bird, will be staring in the TV screen, looking for the new tracks for my play list. Surely, I could have done it already (holy Internet), but it's not in my best interest. Also, people call it spoilers.
By my own little tradition, I've changed my profile picture in the social network on the logo of Eurovision 2013. I've done it since 2011, when Germany held the competition.

I think you all know that Eurovision is not only about songs, but also about international "friendship". I don't remember a lot of points from Italy or Holland, for example, but here comes Ukrain, welcome, Azerbaijan. [EUROCOMMERCE] One smart guy has made a pretty easy diagram to find out  who with whom, where, when, how. For the beginners.

Unfortunately, I can give up with my efforts to learn history, becuase to enter Russian Philology Department, I'll have to pass history successfully. I haven't told ya about philology, have I? Well, we've got some problems among our big family, so I should study on the budget basis in the university. Therefore I've found Philology Departments of Far East Federal University - for the Russian and foreign languages. I'll send my documents to both faculties, therefore I must be ready. Actually, it's easier to find yourself in FEFU, than in the universities of Moscow and St. Petersburg, where I've been longing to go to so much. [RUSSIAN COMMERCE]

Guess who?

The song of the day... Let it be my honey Katy Perry with a pretty melancholic song "Lost" for her 1st album "One Of The Boys".

Poems' Day

Sometimes I run into the pictures with beautiful verses, and I feel like sharing them with you. I don't know the authors, they just appear in my Internet space. Yeah, I admit the poems are pretty sad, but it doesn't spoil their tenderness.

I also want to get you my favourite poem "The Tyger" by William Blake. The poet even made an illustration. You see, here's the original Y in 'Tyger' and the punctuation, but later editions, of course, have done it our way. No matter what, enjoy "The Tyger".

Tyger Tyger. burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye.
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare sieze the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat.
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp.
Dare its deadly terrors clasp!

When the stars threw down their spears
And water'd heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger Tyger burning bright.
In the forests of the night:
What immortal hand or eye.
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

There're some audio versions of Shakespeare's sonets and other different poems in my Reader, read by my favourite British actors: Devid Tennant, Tom Hiddleston, Ben Whishaw, Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Scott. It's useful listening to the original English language recorded by native speakers (so sexy native speakers) and trying to understand every tiny thing. Plus, I can't help listening to it when I'm sleepless or nervous - nice rich deep male voices always work wonders with the women.
And here's Mr. Devid Tennant performing for you Sonet 12 by William Shakespeare. Oh, he sits like a machine, but his words fly away.

Also I can't miss our Russian literature and my favourite Russian poets - Mikhail Lermontov and Alexander Blok. Russian writers and poets have probably never had easy life, so didn't have these two.

Mikhail Lermontov
Like An Evil Spirit

Like an evil spirit hast thou
Shocked my heart from out its rest,
If thou'lt take it quite away now -
Thou wilt win my healing blest!

My heart thy temple evermore!
Thy face,- the altar's Godhead sign!
Not heaven's grace, - thy smiles, restore,
Grant absolution, joy divine!

Alexander Blok
A Girl Sang a Song

A girl sang a song in the temple's chorus,
About men, tired in alien lands,
About the ships that left native shores,
And all who forgot their joy to the end.

Thus sang her clean voice, and flew up to the highness,
And sunbeams shined on her shoulder's white -
And everyone saw and heard from the darkness
The white and airy gown, singing in the light.

And all of them were sure, that joy would burst out:
The ships have arrived at their beach,
The people, in the land of the aliens tired,
Regaining their bearing, are happy and reach.

And sweet was her voice and the sun's beams around....
And only, by Caesar's Gates - high on the vault,
The baby, versed into mysteries, mourned,
Because none of them will be ever returned.

And certainly, exercising my rights as a would-be musician, I can't deny many songs have really nice lyrics. And vice versa - there's a glut of cases when a poem has become a decent song. At least, I can warrant Russian music area.
If you're still looking forward to the song of the day, so it'll be an adorable song "The Man I Love" by Ella Fitzgerald. No, it's not the same song which Lana Del Rey sings. But you should pay your attention even more to Ella's song, Ella Fitzgerald is The Queen of jazz. We must give her due, because singing jazz is a hard deal, however easy and funny it may look. I definitely love it.

Government Who??!

3
Guys! I'm actually making one of the most amazing things I've even made, but I won't tell you what it is, so please wait till tomorrow, I'll make a post about it even with tutorial! :D
Right now I've stopped doing it to do my math homework. They say, it's pretty easy, so let's see.
Today I've been at a musical contest in my music school. The contest's been nice, and generally it always pleasent coming back to your lovely places, where you used to be. Then my music friend and I have gone home talking about movies. But I have gone then actually to the shops with my other friend to buy some "things" to my masterpiece, that you'll see tomorrow!
We haven't heard Lady Gaga for ages in my blog! So the song of the day will be one of my favourite songs of her, and its tittle is "Government Hooker". Yup, the lyrics is provocative enough (as well as Gaga herself), but I really love this song. It's so dancing, moving and sexy. Shake yourself!

I can be good,
If you just wanna be bad.
I can be cool,
If you just wanna be mad.
I can be anything,
I'll be your everything,
Just touch me baby.
I don't wanna be sad.

Also I'm about to give you some sweet pictures as usually:

Adorable Andrew and Ben. Miss them? I do.

Good time! Be brave!
